목적 (Purpose)
Reference document for Scope 3 Category 15 (investments) calculation and data handling. Defines how an investee corporation's Scope 1+2 emissions are attributed by equity share, the precedence of data sources, and when stored values must be refreshed. Use this document as the baseline when comparing or verifying report figures against Category 15 figures.
Calculation Boundary
근거:
The investee emissions used for Category 15 are scoped to the investee corporation alone. Emissions of the investee's subsidiaries (including lower tiers) are not included.
Rationale:
- The figure must be directly comparable (1:1) with the corp-level report the investee produces for itself.
- If exposure to an investee's subsidiary is material, register it as a separate investment relationship and attribute it individually. Summing the whole group double-counts emissions in multi-tier ownership structures.
Scope 2 Method
Investee Scope 2 for Category 15 is always location-based. Even where the investee reports market-based figures in other contexts (e.g. its own reports), the location-based value is used for Category 15 attribution. Consequently, a report using the market-based method and the value attributed under Category 15 may legitimately differ.
계산 공식 (Formula)
Category 15 emissions = (investee Scope 1 + investee Scope 2) × equity share
The equity share is stored and applied as a 0–1 fraction (e.g. a 40% stake → 0.4).
Data Sources & Precedence
Investee Scope 1+2 values come from one of two sources, in order of preference.
- The investee's own inventory, when it has one. Align the boundary first — a figure computed on different rules than above (corporation only, location-based) will not reconcile once the equity share is applied — and confirm it covers the full reporting year.
- Disclosed values entered manually, when the investee has no inventory or no figure for that year. Attach the external evidence (sustainability report, public filing); a value without a traceable source cannot be defended in assurance.
⚠️ A year already reported on disclosed values is not silently overwritten when the investee's own figure later becomes available — that would contradict what was already published. Treat the change as a recalculation and disclose it.
Refresh Semantics
Stored investee emissions and Category 15 attributions are snapshots — they are not recalculated in real time.
- After the investee's activity data changes, emissions must be re-fetched and Category 15 recalculated for the change to be reflected.
- A change in equity share likewise requires recalculation.
- If the boundary rule itself changes (e.g. adoption of the boundary in this document), all previously synced investee values must be re-fetched.
Double-Counting Guard
Corporations already inside the reporting organizational boundary are excluded from Category 15 totals, preventing the same corporation's emissions from appearing in both Scope 1+2 and Category 15.
